STAB was formed by Steve Thurley and Andy Bairsto who met while rehearsing for Haywards Heath Operatic Society’s production of Guys & Dolls in 2011. They saw a niche within the theatre groups of Mid Sussex for a small company that could focus on plays that were a little more challenging – both for the audience and actors.  Now, this doesn't mean ‘the retelling of the Bible through the medium of interpretive dance’ or any such like – neither Steve nor Andy dance particularly well, or look good in leotards! For them it’s more about taking plays that perhaps don’t often get to be showcased in local theatre – something that’s thought-provoking, inspiring, edgy, unfamiliar; any or all of the above. And so while the plays may not be well-known or ‘popular’ they do have to ignite some passion within the producers and players alike. Because that’s the guiding principle - shaped from a passion for theatre.

Our nominated charity

For our first production we nominated a local charity, Chailey Heritage Foundation, to receive the proceeds from ticket sales and bucket donations. You can find out more about this very worthy cause here. STAB intends to continue its association with them and hope future audiences can give generously to the collection buckets at  performances.

Steve is Head of Drama and Theatre Studies at Oriel High School, Crawley. He is an experienced dramatist and has appeared in, or directed, over 50 productions in London and the South East. Notable performances include Nathan Detroit (Guys and Dolls), Lockit (The Beggars Opera), Mr Bumble (Oliver!) and David (David Copperfield). He is immensely proud to be involved with STAB Productions and , in doing so, has realised a long-standing ambition.
